GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE 2 PERFORATION PULLDOWN
WIDE SCREEN CAMERA SYSTEM
2 perf In 1961 Technicolor in Rome brought out a revolutionary new fromat utilising 35mm film with a frame two perforations high instead of the standard four.

TECHNISCOPE was dubbed a 'budget' format because the film stock and laboratory costs to the stage of internegative were exactly halved.

Camera manufacturers quickly embraced the format and delivered 2 perforation models...

363 films were shot in TECHNISCOPE over a period of 19 years.

Some titles that may be remembered include ALFIE, THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY, A FISTFUL OF DOLLARS. ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST from England and Europe and THX 1138, BEAU GESTE, CHARLIE and AMERICAN GRAFFITI from the USA

However the coarse grain structure of available camera negative and intermediate stocks, and the onslought of a new wave of 'Scope' films using improved and long overdue anamorphic lenses, saw the format die out in 1980. For the last 25 years the TECHNISCOPE process has been virtually dormant.

Until now. The evolution, over the last two decades of finer grain emulsions, the emergence of pin sharp camera and printing lenses and the almost transparent intermediate film stocks and/or digital intermediates all combine in the 2000s to support a 2 perforation image of exceptional quality.

With camera stock, developing, work print and inter positive expense all halved, the 35mm producer is handed budget flexibility. The 16mm producer can upgrade to 35mm for a minimal extra outlay.
